The Epidemiology of Alcohol use Disorder in the Covid-19 Pandemic: A Kenyan Perspective

Aims: During the covid-19 pandemic period restrictions on alcohol consumption have been imposed by various governments guided World Health Organization Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) guidelines public protection. The focus is to limit spread of disease. study aims at using an Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test as a screening tool explore experiences during past one year Covid-19 among adults under rehabilitations in Kenyans. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional quantitative research design was used. Participants were sort from two Counties Kenya with highest rate use while purposive sampling method used select rehabilitation facilities number admitted clients. Ninety-three respondents participated; this 83% calculated sample size. Results: Study results tested hazardous found that sequence consumption, 71% participants consumed 4 or more times week. test dependence daily almost most unable stop drinking once started, meet expectations due and needed first drink morning after heavy session, they represented 51.6%, 66.7% respectively. On harmful use, 82% concerned cut down their drinking. Conclusion: important evaluate restrictions.
